A slightly above average story.

”Olympus descending is the only disappointing part of the Worlds of Deep Space Nine – miniseries. It begins with the concept of a god the Founders look up to, in my opinion that contradicts nearly everything we have seen about them onscreen and in fiction. I’m all for surprising plot elements or drastic changes, but that’s just a to big a inconsistency to just accept it. One thing that somewhat rescues this story from an even worse rating, is that Odo doubts this development, too. To make this clear : I could accept the existence of a superchangeling like the one Odo & Co. are finding, what doesn’t work for me are the “religious” actions and reactions of the great Link. The better part of the story is definitely the part about Tara’natar’s struggle with Odo’s orders and the changes he is going through. The showing of his slowly deteriorating mental health and the ongoing change between illusion / dream and reality makes a very interesting and gripping read. The part about Odo’s and Kira’s conversation in Dax’s cabin is a nice piece of filling the gaps the TV series had left behind.
The characterizations are good if you put the changelings aside, especially Tara’natar has some good moments.

Overall a story which is somewhat divided quality wise. It suffers under the hard to chew Great Link part, but the Taran’atar part is a pretty good read..
