In the past the German translations normally have used the original versions of the Covers, but it seems CrossCult, the current publishers wants to change that at least for some novels.

After Death in Winter (Tod im Winter) which already was released with a new cover, now they have new covers of Q&A (Quintessenz), Before Dishonor (Heldentod) and Abyss (Der Abgrund) online on their startrekromane.de website. (I don't think any of them are really better than the original, and I really, really hope the Abyss one is just a mock-up or joke.)

I actually like that cover much better than the American one for Q & A.....

Yeah, I guess Q&A is the one somewhat benefiting from the change, but the other TNG novels aren't really an improvement IMO (nor are they really worse), and the DS9 doesn't work for me at all. And I guess they aren't too sure about it either, since they already have an alternative (will edit into the OP soon).

By the way, so far these covers are only tentative, since they have to be approved first (Patrick Stewart has to approve the Q&A one for example, according to a representative from the german publisher they got the O.K. from him for the Death in Winter one mere days before the book was going into print, although he had the cover way in advance.

I like the second Abyss cover over the first one myself. Dr. Bashir, shining the light into the dark corners of Starfleet...and as for the German/Deutsch title of Before Dishonor? Once I looked up the translation of that word, it gives away too much with that word alone, perhaps.

After there was a bit of an outcry on the publisher's forum because of the "Bond" cover for Abyss they now have two more potential covers:

As for the German name for Before Dishonor, while it spoils the book a bit, I would cut them some slack, Before Dishonor isn't really easy to translate to German.
